The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Incident Investigation is a one-day qualification developed jointly by NEBOSH and the HSE. It equips delegates with the skills and knowledge to investigate workplace incidents, identify root causes, and recommend effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Before your course

A short checklist so day one runs smoothly. We send the pre-course pack a week before you start.

Photo ID for the NEBOSH assessment (passport, driving licence, or work ID badge).
An anonymised real incident to bring to the case-study work. It can be one from your own workplace, recent or historical. Stripping the names beforehand keeps the discussion safe and lets you focus on the analysis. This is the single thing that makes the course click.
A copy of your organisation's incident reporting form or template if you have one. We'll cover ICAM, root-cause analysis, and where each method fits — having a real template to compare against makes it concrete.
Notebook and pen for case-study work. Some delegates also bring sticky notes for timeline mapping.
Travel and parking for the in-person sessions across Norfolk. Address and parking notes are in your booking confirmation.

Do I need the NEBOSH General Certificate first?

No. This is a standalone qualification. While the NGC provides useful background knowledge, the Incident Investigation certificate is designed to be accessible to anyone with workplace experience.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is a practical exercise completed during the course day. You will investigate a simulated incident scenario, apply root cause analysis, and produce a brief investigation report.

What is the role of the HSE in this qualification?

The qualification was developed in partnership with the Health and Safety Executive. The HSE contributed practical investigation methodology and real-world case studies to ensure the course reflects current best practice.

Is this course available online?
