NEBOSH Gold Learning PartnerThe NEBOSH National General Certificate (NGC) is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK. It provides a broad understanding of health and safety principles and is essential for anyone looking to build a career in occupational safety, or for managers and supervisors who need to manage risk in the workplace.
The NGC is assessed using the Open Book Examination (OBE) format and is divided into two units:

NEBOSH NGC is delivered over 10 days, split into two 5-day weeks approximately one month apart. Each cohort below shows both attendance weeks. Available virtually via Microsoft Teams and in-person at venues across Norfolk.

The OBE replaced the traditional exam in 2020. You receive a scenario-based question and have a set period to complete it using your course materials and notes. It tests your ability to apply knowledge to a realistic workplace situation rather than memorise facts.
NG2 is a practical risk assessment of a workplace of your own choosing - it does not have to be your own workplace. You identify hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend proportionate control measures. Your tutor provides guidance and feedback throughout the process. There is no formal exam - it is assessed by NEBOSH examiners based on your written submission.
No formal qualifications are required. The NGC is suitable for anyone with workplace experience, though a reasonable standard of English is needed as the assessments are written. If you are unsure whether the NGC is the right level for you, contact us and we can advise.
NEBOSH does not publish provider-specific pass rates, but the national average is around 70-75% for NG1 and higher for NG2. As a NEBOSH Gold Learning Partner, our pass rates consistently exceed the national average thanks to our support structure and experienced tutors.

The NGC is the most requested qualification by employers hiring for health and safety roles. It supports your progression towards Tech IOSH membership and is the foundation for higher qualifications like the NEBOSH Diploma, which qualifies you for Graduate membership of IOSH (GradIOSH). Typical roles include Health & Safety Advisor, Health & Safety Officer, and Health & Safety Manager.
